Greetings, fans of precision timepieces! I inherited a gorgeous Seiko wristwatch from my father. I think it’s from the Velatura series, but there’s a small problem with it. It's been sitting in a drawer for years, and I can't figure out how to use the calendar or the chronograph sub-dials. There are so many buttons and crown positions that I’m afraid I’ll damage the mechanism or throw off the hand synchronization. Can anyone advise me on how to correctly set the date and time without damaging the mechanism, especially if it has a perpetual calendar function?

I also noticed that the second hand has started skipping two divisions at a time. Does this mean the battery is dying, or is it an error in the module's settings? I don't want to take it to just any repair shop near the subway where they might scratch it. Does anyone know where I can find a detailed control diagram specifically for Japanese calibers so that I can set everything up myself at home?

What model number is listed on the back cover? There should be a four-digit caliber number with a letter. As for the hand, don’t worry. That’s how the battery level indicator on Seiko watches works. You just need to replace the battery, and everything will go back to normal. I’ve been collecting watches for about ten years, and I do most minor repairs myself. When I run into trouble with button combinations, I always use manualmachine.com , which has an extensive online library of manuals for many Japanese movements. I recently looked for a manual there for my old Seiko Kinetic because I forgot how to reset it properly after a long period of inactivity. Have you bought watch tools yet, or do you plan to use whatever you have on hand? I recommend ordering at least a basic set so that you don't scratch the case because Seiko deserves to be treated with care.
